Noir

The purpose of my tower is the gradually introduce the narrow minded woman into the world around her. The woman is originally underground in a circular room. The purpose of the cylindrical shape is for the woman to start very self centered and also to feel enclosed and fortified in her space. In this space there are boxes which sprout from the cylindrical space which act as the woman's ultimate security. The resemble safety deposit boxes in which the woman can store her money and jewelry.

As the location of the woman rises, she enters a new space which is designed as a room which also accommodates as her wardrobe. The openings in this space are similar to those in Le Corbusier's Church in Ronchamp. They are one way windows which allow light to enter, but does not allow the occupant to see outside. This wardrobe is made so that the focus of the occupant is still on herself. The light is only used to emphasise the vanity of this woman.

Rising further in the tower, the woman is gradually allowed more light and openings as she starts to engage in the world around her. This space is the area in which the woman stores her collection of shoes in the slotted compartment. These slots acts as a display box for both outside and inside observers. They also allow a light beam that clings to the floor of the space, which will only illuminate the womans feet. The focus subject of this room, is still placed upon the woman and the act of wearing and displaying her shoes, however a subtle connection to the outside is made.

Rising above her vanity and ignorance of the world, the woman must take an unprotected set of stairs, her vulnerabilty in this moment reflects the womans feeling as she is unsure of her future. The top floor is finally reach both physcially and mentally, and upon her is a curved roof which captures the sun's ray into a volume of light which will frame a picturesque photo of the vast world that surrounds her.
